The melody appears unique to Charles and Samuel Thompson’s Compleat Collection, vol. 3 (London, 1773). Dance instructions for “Sr. Tom in an Office” were printed in the Thompson’s Twenty-Four Country Dances for the Year 1769 and in The ladies' own memorandum-book; or, daily pocket journal, for the year 1769.
