SIR WATKIN’'S JIGG. English, Jig (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody appears in Johnson’s Choice Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 5 (London, 1750), and in John Hinton's periodical The Universal Magazine of Knowledge and Pleasure (London, 1758). The title may refer to one of the Sir Watkin Williams-Wynn baronets (for which see "annotation:Sir Watkin William Wynn"). "Sir Watkin's Jigg" was also entered in the music manuscript collection of Welsh musician John Thomas, dated 1752.
