SKATER'S WALTZ. AKA - "Patineurs (Les)," "Skaters (The)." French, Waltz (3/4 time). A Major ('A' and 'B' parts) & D Major ('C' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABC. "Die Schlittschuhläufer Op. 183" is a waltz by French pianist, conductor and composer of dance and concert music, Émile Waldteufel (1837-1915). It was composed in 1882, inspired by the Cercle des Patineurs or 'Rink of Skaters' at the Bois de Boulogne in Paris. The waltz been immensely popular for a century and a half, and can be heard in dozens of films and other entertainments. So iconic is it that melodic snatches are incorporated into soundtracks and other entertainments, and it is often used to evoke peaceful winter activity.
