SKYLARK [3], THE. AKA and see "Hearty Boys of Ballymote," “Jackson's Maid at the Fair (2)," "Jig (110)," "Julia's Favorite.” Irish, Jig (6/8 time). A Dorian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Fr. John Quinn finds Elias Howe's "Julia's Favorite" to be a cognate melody, as well as "Hearty Boys of Ballymote." A version, cognate in the first strain and similar in the second, can be found in Rev. Patrick MacDonald's Collection of Highland Vocal Airs (1784, No. 6, p. 33--See "Jig (110)") as an untitled North Highland jig.
