SMOKE HOUSE DANCE. American, Reel (2/4 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune was entered into the music manuscript collection of musician M.E. Eames, who was perhaps from Philadelphia, Pa., judging from a few of the tune titles in his ms. that could be local to the city. "Smoke House Dance" is (so far) unique to his ms., origins unknown. The title also may fit with the genre. There are several blackface minstrel tunes/airs in the ms., and "Smoke Dance House" may have minstrel origins. However, it also sounds like an 'old-time' reel.
