SPENSER'S HORNPIPE.AKA and see "Bregeth (Y)," "Sermon (The)." Irish, Welsh; Hornpipe (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDDEE. An exceeding long traditional hornpipe, provenance unknown. The source for the Welsh version ("Y Bregeth/The Sermon") is an old ms. from which the tune was plucked by contemporary harper Robin Huw Bowen and reintroduced into the tradition. The Irish version ("Spenser's Hornpipe") can be found in the mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork cleric and uilleann piper James Goodman.
