SPRING CREEK. American, Reel (2/4 time). USA,Missouri. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Collector R.P. Christeson transcribed the tune from memory as his source, Dallas Stamper (Miller County, central Missouri), had died in 1944 before Christeson started recording. He backed up Stamper in 1926 when he played this tune during a visit to Dixon, Missouri, when he played for a six-day picnic and square dance (for which Christeson was paid a dollar a night for his efforts). "Few fiddlers impressed me more," wrote Christeson, "before or since"[1], who also noted that another of his sources, Waldo Helton, used to play this tune often at dances.
