SPRINGTIME IN BATTERSEA. English, Waltz (3/4 time). C Major (‘A’ and ‘B’ parts) & G Major (‘C’ part). Standard tuning (fiddle). ABACAB. 'Composed' by Tommy Williams, a duet concertina player, who recorded an album for Free Reed Records in 1976 at the age of 86. On the recording he talked about his career playing and tuning concertinas for the famous maker Lachenal in London in the early 20th century. He took his concertina to the trenches in France to entertain the troops in World War I. The tune, however, is Williams adaptation of a tune popular in Germany and Austria that goes by the names of "Der Schneewalzer" (Snow Waltz), "Schneewaltz" and "Apfel Strudel Waltz," among others.
