STAN’S JIG. Canadian, Jig (6/8 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by Métis fiddler Eugene 'Gene' Laderoute (1928-1981, Brandon, Manitoba, Canada), who was originally from Ste. Rose, Manitoba. He began fiddling at age seven by listening to his father Ludovic 'Dave' Laderoute and his Uncles Phil and Azarie, and from Andy Desjarlais records, learning on a fiddle his father made for him. Laderoute composed 33 tunes including the popular fiddle tunes "Stan's Jig" and "Keystone Reel (The)." He died of a heart attack at a fiddle contest at Killarney, Manitoba, after he had just won the trophy for first prize.
