STURM MARCH GALOP, THE. English, Galop (2/4 time). F Major (Winter). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. The once-popular "Sturm March Galop" was composed by Benjamin Bilse (1816-1902) and published in London around 1850. Bilse was a German composer and orchestra leader, who rose to fame along with his touring band in the mid-to-latter 19th century. In 1882 fifty-four musicians split to found the "Former Bilse's Band" under conductor Ludwig von Brenner, shortly afterwards renamed Berlin Philharmonic.
