SUGAR IN THE GOURD [3]. American, Reel (4/4 time). USA, southwestern Pa. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'. The title is a floating one. Bayard (1981) points out that his untitled "Square Dance" (No. 537, p. 477) is a 6/8 time version of this tune, which he interprets as illustrating an aspect of folk process by which fiddlers will recast existing tunes to make other ones.
