SWEET BIDDY OF BALLYVOURNEY (Brigidin milis/deas ui/ua Baile-Muirne). Irish, Reel (cut time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. Breathnach (1963) is of the opinion that the second part of this tune in the O’Neill's collections does not go with the first part. A cognate version was printed as an untitled reel (No. 51, p. 51) by collector Patrick Weston Joyce in his Ancient Irish Music (1873), obtained from his neighbor, professional fiddler Ned Goggin of Glenosheen, County Limerick, in the mid-19th century. Paul de Grae finds variants as “Music in the Forge,” Breathnach’s “Tameen's Reel,” Willie Clancy's "Ceol na gCeártan" and “Irishman's Love (2) (The)” in Ryan’s Mammoth Collection (1883). See and compare the first strains of “Pretty Girls of Mayo,” and “Sweeney’s Reel.”
