SWORD DANCE [2], THE. English, Country Dance Tune (4/4 time). D Dorian (Playford): D Major (Howe). Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The tune and country dance had a short-lived appearance in Henry Playford's Dancing Master, editions 11, 12 and 13, after which it was dropped from the later Dancing Master editions. Boston publisher Elias Howe's editorial shift to the key of D major for the tune does not improve it.
