SWORD DANCE [3], THE. AKA - "Strum." English, Country Dance (9/8 time). D Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "The Sword Dance [3]" along with the alternate title, "Strum", was printed in all four editions of London music publisher John Young's Second Volume of the Dancing Master (c. 1710-1728). It was also published by rival London publisher John Walsh in his New Country Dancing Master, vol. 2 (1710) and The Second Book of the Compleat Country Dancing-Master (1719). It is a precursor tune of the "Camstroden's Rant" tune family.

Although the tune is titled 'sword dance', the dance directions that accompany it are for a country dance, sans implements.
