SYNTHA. American, Reel (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composition credited to one Jas. Hand in Ryan’s Mammoth Collection (1883). It is one of the more American vernacular sounding tunes in the volume. Little is know about the composer, but both a Johnny and James Hand were named composers of tunes in the Elias Howe publications. They were presumably brothers, or perhaps father and son, and were probably regional New England musicians and/or band leaders.
