TASTE OF GAELIC, A (Blasad Ghaidhlig). AKA and see “Scotch Patriot's Reel (The).” Scottish, Reel. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. A variant of “Lord Gordon’s” (sometimes called "Old Lord Gordon's") that can be found in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883) under the title "Scotch Patriot's Reel (The)." The Gaelic title Blasad Ghaidhlig/Gàidhlig) comes from Mary MacDonald, via pianist Doug MacPhee. Mark Wilson suggests the “Taste of Gaelic” title stems from the saying that musicians who played with a “pure drop” traditional style had “Gaelic in their music.”
The tune under the "Taste of Gaelic" title was first recorded in 1936 by Angus Allan Gillis and Dan J. Campbell on 78 RPM.
