TATTOO. English, Country Dance Tune (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. There are many such-titled tunes as “wikipedia:Tattoo” is a generic term in martial music. According to Wikipedia "The term comes from the early 17th-century Dutch phrase doe den tap toe ("turn off the tap"), a signal sounded by drummers or trumpeters to instruct innkeepers near military garrisons to stop serving beer and for soldiers to return to their barracks." This particular tattoo melody appears unique to Thompson’s 1765 collection.
