TEELIN POLKA [1], THE. AKA and see “Nicky's Archive.” Irish, Polka or Barndance (2/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA’BB’. Teelin is a small village in County Donegal. The tune seems to be associated with the Kilcar/Glencolmcille area of Donegal, according to Mick Brown. A barndance adaptation goes by the modern name of “Nicky's Archive.” The tune was sourced by the band Skylark from Danny O’Donnell, who had it from a first cousin of Francie Byrne, in America (O'Donnell spent significant parts of his life in America). The "Teelin Polkas" (1 & 2) are now associated with Donegal fiddler O'Donnell's playing, a native of Teelin.
O'Donnell played the tunes as polkas, but they have also been rendered in barndance rhythm (as they are on Ó hAllmhuráin & Ourceau's 1999 recording).
