THADY RAGEN. Irish, Polka (cut time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. "Thady Ragen" is the name for this simple polka that was printed in James Morrison's c. 1920's accordion tutor. County Sligo native Morrison is best known for his fiddle playing, but was a versatile musician and played several instruments. He taught music and gave lessons on the accordion in addition to fiddle (the Globe Accordion was a diatonic ten-key melodeon). The first strain of "Thady Ragen" is shared with "Miss Richards' Hornpipe," a melody that appears in the 19th century music manuscript collection of the Hardy Family of Dorset, England.
