THERE LIVES A LASS UPON THE GREEN. English, Air (6/8 time). E Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The air (though not the original lyrics, which have been lost) was the vehicle for a song in the ballad opera The Jovial Crew (1731).

At night, by moonlight, on the plain,
With rapture how I’ve seen;
Attended by her harmless train,
The little fairy queen.
Her midnight revels sweetly keep;
While mortals are involv’d in sleep,
They trip it o’er the green.
