THOMPSON'S REEL [1] (Seisd/Cor Mic Tomais). AKA and see "Spirvin's Fancy." Irish, Reel. G Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). O'Neill/1915): AA'B (O'Neill/1850 & 1001): AA'BB' (O'Neill/Krassen). "Thompson's Reel [1]" was first printed in George H. Coes Coes Album of Jigs and Reels (1876). O'Neill kept the title "Thompson's Reel" in his Music of Ireland (1903), bypassing the tune under the title "Spirvin's Fancy", as it appears in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883). Paul de Grae finds "Zeek Backus Reel" in Boston music publisher Elias Howe's collections to be a very similar tune, as is "Thompson's Hornpipe." Some consider "Thompson's Reel [1]" a composite tune, with the first part being a version of "Girl that Broke My Heart (1) (The)," and the second part a version of the 'B' part of "Paddy Lynn's Delight."
