TITUS HORNPIPE. Scottish (?), Hornpipe. A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The tune under the "Titus Hornpipe" title was printed in Laybourn'sKöhler’s Violin Repository vol. 3(1885), although it would appear to have an American provenance. William Bradbury Ryan printed the same tune in his Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883) under the title "Rose of the Valley". Laybourn's title may reference a still earlier version of the tune (as yet undiscovered), played or composed by one of the Titus family, who were American blackface and variety performers of the second half of the 19th century.
