TOBACA DAOR. Irish, Reel. Ireland, County Donegal. The piece is attributed to southwest Donegal fiddler John Mósaí (Mac Fhionnlaioch), born in the 1840's and considered to be the best regional fiddler of his generation. Caoimhin Mac Aoidh (Between the Jigs and Reels, 1994) relates that the title refers to a trip made by John on his white pony to a pub in Glencolumcille to purchase tobacco. The fiddler was sidetracked by a card game in which he lost all his money, but managed to return home having salvaged his plug of tobacco. John Mósaí died about 1920 and is buried in Gleann Cholm Cille.
