TOP OF BALVENIE, THE. Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB'. Composed by fiddler-composer biography:William Marshall (1748-1833) of Fochabers in Morayshire, famous for his strathspey compositions. The title may have some association with Balvenie Castle, which in Marshall's day was a ruined stone castle north of Dufftown in the Moray region of Scotland, having been effectively abandoned after 1718.
