TRIP TO KEW, A. English, Jig (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody is unique to Charles and Samuel Thompson’s Compleat Collection, vol. 3 (London, 1773). The title probably refers to the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew Park, originally an exotic garden formed by Lord Capel of Tewkesbury in the mid-18th century. The gardens were enlarged by Augusta, Doweger Princess of Wales.
