UAIGNEAS. Irish, Slow Air (3/4 time). G Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Composed by fiddler and pianist Josephine Keegan (b. 1935), of Mullaghbawn, south County Armagh. Keegan explains that at the top of 2,000 foot Slieve Gullion is an extinct volcano with a crater lake, and the cave of the mythical Caileach Beara. The poet Rafteiri made reference to the place when he wrote ‘Uaigneach me is na Caileach Beara’ (I’m as lonely as the Caileach Beara).
