VALLEY OF KNOCKANURE. AKA - "Valley of Knocknamore." Irish, Waltz (3/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). One part. There are several ballads called "Valley of Knockanure," all commemorating a tragic event of the Irish War of Independence. In 1921 four young men were rounded up by a unit of British Black and Tans, who determined to execute their prisoners. One, seeing what was about to happen to him, managed to make a run for it, and although wounded he escaped. The remaining three were shot dead.
