VIRGINIA COTILLION. American, Jig (6/8 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). ABC. Composed by George P. Knauff, and published by George Willig in Baltimore in 1839, the same year that Knauff and Willig issued their Virginia Reels volumes. "Virginia Cotillion" was printed separately on a single-sheet. It is a simple tune, with simple accompaniment, and was perhaps used by Knauff for his music lessons either from his business in Farmville, Va., or his boarding school tutelage.
