WHEN BUSY FAME. English, Air (4/4 time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. The tune was composed by Thomas Farmer, and, according to Chappell (1859), was popular for fifty years during and after the reign of Charles II. The song appears in Playford's Choice Ayres (1684), and Pills to Purge Melancholy (1707 & 1719), but several other ballads were sung to the tune.
