Source for notated version: “From Joseph Hughes” [Stanford/Petrie]. Joseph Hughes was the husband of Mary Holden, the daughter of Smollet Holden, the most emient British composer of military music of his age. She was also the sister of Dr. Francis Holden, with whom Petrie collaborated on a published collection of Irish melodies. Petrie also collaborated with Mary on a volume of Irish music, but she died while it was being prepared for publication, and the work was never issued.
