WHISH, THE. English, Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA (x11). The tune dates to 1651 when it was first published in London publisher John Playford's [1] English Dancing Master (p. 9). It was retained in subsequent editions of The Dancing Master through the seventh edition of 1686, after which it was dropped from the series. John Playford died in 1686 and his published business was taken over by his son, Henry.
