WILL SHARPLESS. English. England, Northumberland. One of the "missing tunes" from William Vickers' 1770 Northumbrian dance tune manuscript. Thomas Holcroft, in his Wit's Magazine; or, Library of Momus (1784, p. 356) printed an epitaph on a pin-maker, by Mr. Stone:

Here lies Will Sharpless. O most cruel Death!
Why didst thou rob Will Sharpless of his breath?
He, in his life-time, scraping one poor pin,
Made better dust than thou canst make of him.

The piece appears to be a litterary exercise rather than a real epitaph.
