The melody was published by Henry Playford in his Dancing Master, vol. 11 (London, 1701, p. 275) and by John Walsh in The Compleat Country Dancing Master (London, 1718, p. 287). Unusually, the tune only appeared in two of the eighteen editions of the Dancing Master (the 11th and 18th editions).
Wimbleton House, Surrey, was originally constructed in the reign of Queen Elizabeth by Sir Robert Cecil. It eventually was purchased by Sarah, Duchess Dowager of Marlborough, who left it to John Spencer, brother of the Duke of Marlborough.
