WIND THAT SHAKES THE BARLEY [4]. American, Reel (cut time). USA, Texas. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'B. A different tune than other "Wind the Shakes the Barley" melodies, and no relation to the Irish reel except to borrow the title. The tune is in the repertoire of Texas-style fiddler Vernon Riddle, a native of South Carolina who learned much of his repertoire from fiddlers in Texas in the 1950's, when stationed in on an Air Force base in Amarillo. One of his mentors was famed Texas fiddler Eck Robertson, although he was also influenced by playing with Benny Thomasson, Jack Mears, the Solomons and others.
