WOOD LARK. English, Country Dance Tune (cut time). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody, with directions for a country dance, appears in all four editions of London publisher John Young's Second Volume of the Dancing Master (1710-1728). It was also printed by John Walsh in The New Country Dancing Master. . . 2d Book (London, 1710), and his The Second Book of the Compleat Country Dancing-Master (1719). An identical version to John Young's was entered into Edinburgh fiddler and writing master David Young's (no relation) MacFarlane Manuscript (c. 1741).
