YOUGHAL WALTZ [1]. Irish, Waltz. G Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. A early waltz. Youghal is in east County Cork, on the border with County Waterford (separated by Youghal Harbor and Youghal Bay), and thus belongs with uilleann piper O’Farrell’s “Waterford tunes”—melodies with titles that reference County Waterford locations that are sprinkled throughout O’Farrell’s volumes. The preponderance of Waterford place names suggests O’Farrell hailed from Waterford, or lived there for a significant time.
