YOUNG PRINCE, THE. English, Jig. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody is unique to London publishers Charles and Samuel Thompson’s 1765 country dance collection. George III succeeded to the throne in 1760. His eldest son, George Augustus Frederick (later George IV), was born in 1762, and may be the ‘young Prince’ of the title.

George Augustus Frederick as the Prince of Wales, c. 1780.
