Accordion player Jerry O'Brien was born in 1899 in Kinsale, County Cork. He was a teacher of Irish Gaelic, and, during the rising of 1816, he was targeted by the Black and Tans. Smuggled out of Ireland in 1920, by the next year he had arrived in Boston, Mass., where he learned to play the accordion. He was also a noted step-dancer.
