GREEN FIELDS TO AMERICA, THE. Irish (originally), Canadian; Reel. Canada, Prince Edward Island. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. Not the more famous Irish tune "Greenfields of America (1)," though the confusion is understandable. Breathnach (1996) says the title is a miss-naming in Darley & McCall's Feis Ceoil Collection of Traditional Irish Music (1914), of the tune usually known as "Miss Monaghan." It is a member of a large tune family that includes "Barrow Castle (The)," "Belles of Tipperary (2)," "Blea-Berry Blossom (The)," "Connacht Lasses," "Connacht Star (The)," "Dandy Girl (The)," "Dandy Lass (The)," "Dandy Lasses (The)," "Four Courts of Dublin (The)," "Jackson's Welcome to Cork (1)," "Johnny Shooting in the Glen," "Kerry Star," "Lamont's Reel," "Mel Roddy's Tune" (northeast Kings County, PEI), "Miss Monaghan's Reel," "New Policeman (1) (The)," "O'Connell in Clare," "Shannon's Shores," "Stormy Weather (1)," "White-haired Piper (The)."
