Tune properties and standard notation


FIRST OF APRIL, THE. English, Country Dance Tune (6/8 time). A Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody appears to have been first published by the firm of Longman, Lukey & Broderip in Bride's Favourite Collection of 200 Select Country Dances, Cotillons (London, 1776, (III, p. 91). It also appears in Charles and Samuel Thompson's Compleat Collection of 200 Favourite Country Dances, vol. 4 (London, 1780).
