REEL VAL d'OR. French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). D Major ('A' part), A Major ('B' part) & F#min ('C' part). Standard tuning (fiddle). AA'BCCB. "Reel Val d'Or" was recorded in Montreal in 1938 by fiddler Robert Lemieux and guitarist V. Macchia. Val-d'Or--the 'Valley of Gold'--is a city in north-western Quebec located in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region near La Vérendrye Wildlife Reserve. It takes its name from the gold deposits nearby, discovered in 1923, however, since then other base metals have also been mined in the ancient volcanic rocks of the region.
