SHERIFF MUIR [1]. AKA and see: "Gabhaidh Sinn an Rathad Mor," "Kafoozalum," "Katie Bairdie," "London Bridge (1)," "Old Mrs. Huddledee," "Stewart's March," "Will You go to Sheriff Muir?." Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). A Mixolydian. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. It is perhaps the tune played (under the title “Sliamh an t’Shirreadh”) by piper Robert Mackay, of Lord Rae’s country, at the annual piping competition (originally the Falkirk Tryst) held at the Assembly Hall, Edinburgh, in October, 1784 (as reported in the period journal Scots Magazine).
