REEL BOIVIN. AKA and see "Fisher's Hornpipe." French-Canadian, Reel (cut time). C Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The reel, actually a version of the well-known English piece "Fisher's Hornpipe," was recorded in 1939 by the group Trois Copains, consisting of fiddler Henri Wattier, pianist Edmond Moreau, and accordion player Arthur Pigeon (1884-1966). The title probably refers to the great Quebecois harmonica player Wilbrod Boivin (1910-1981), whose recording "Reel du Lac St-Jean (Le)" is a version of another frequently encountered tune in the English-speaking world, "Lord MacDonald (4)."
