Alva Greene, fiddle

WINDING SHEEP. AKA and see "Folding Down the Sheets," "Hanging Out the Sheets." American, Reel (cut time). USA, Kentucky. D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AB. Jeff Titon (2001) identifies the tune as a variant of “Folding Down the Sheets” (see note for that tune for more on the tune family).

Additional notes

Source for notated version: - Alva Greene (1894-1976, Sandy Hook, Elliott County, Ky., 1973) [Titon]. Greene was 'discovered' in the early 1970's by folklorists Chris Delaney, Guthrie Meade and Mark Wilson, who recorded much of his repertoire, and linked him with a few folk festivals before his death. Titon notes that Greene occasionally used to play with J.P. Fraley's father, Richard Fraley, and visited the Fraley family when J.P. was young.
