MISS BOWLS MINUET. Scottish, Minuet (3/4 time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. The melody appears in numerous 18th century publications, including Peter Thompson's The Compleat Tutor for the French Horn (1755), Charles and Ann Thompson's The Compleat Tutor for the Hautboy (1758), the (James) Gillespie Manuscript of Perth (1768), Longman's Compleat Instructions for the German Flute (1769), Longman's New and Complete Instructions for the Oboe or Hoboy (1770), and several other instrumental tutors. It was also included in the music manuscript collections of American flute player Henry Beck (1786), and English musician Benjamin Cooke (1770).
