MR. JAFFREY'S (JUNR.) STRATHSPEY. Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). A Minor. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB. "Gather and Go" and "Punch is Done (The)" are jigs in Aberdeenshire dancing master and fiddler-composer biography:William Christie's (1778-1749) collection of 1820 that were "communicated" to Christie by Mr. Jaffrey Sr. The name Jaffray/Jaffrey was a fairly common surname in Cuminestown Parish, Monquhitter, Aberdeenshire, the home of William Christie, and there is a record of a William Jaffray who was a teacher of music there who was a contemporary of Christie. If it is he who is the father, the the tune would be named for his son, also a William Jaffrey/Jaffray (Jr.).
