ISLAY BACHELOR'S STRATHSPEY. Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). B Flat Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABB. "Islay Bachelor's Strathspey" was first printed in Islay fiddler-composer biography:Alexander Mackay's Collection of Reels, Strathspeys and Slow Tunes (c. 1822), with the composition attributed to "D. Campbell Esq.r Balinaby," probably Dugald Campbell (1773-?) of the small farming estate of Balliaby, located on the west side of the island. He married Isabella Hunter, and, in 1814, son Colin was born at Ballinaby. There are neolithic and bronze age relics on the property, including standing stones. See also Mackay's tune for Dugald, "Dugald Campbell Esq. of Ballinaby's Jig."
