MISS DUNBAR'S STRATHSPEY. Scottish, Strathspey (whole time). D Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AAB."Miss Dunbar's Strathspey" was composed by Sir Archibald Dunbar, 2nd Baronet of Northfield, in honor of one of his daughters. By his first wife, Helen Cumming-Gordon, his eldest child and only daughter of that marriage was Jane Dunbar who married a general's son prior to 1824. His second wife, Mary Brander, also bore one daughter Margaret Alice Dunbar (d. 1908) who married banker William A. Stables of Nairn in 1856. Sir Archibald also composed another tune for her, "Miss Margaret Dunbar's Strathspey."
