TRIP TO CASTLE HOWARD, A. English, Country Dance Tune (cut time). F Major. Standard tuning (fiddle). AABBCCDD. The melody appears in Charles and Samuel Thompson’s Twenty Four Country Dances for the Year 1775 (London, p. 29). The melody also was entered into the 1798 music manuscript collection of north Yorkshire fiddler Joshua Jackson (1763-1839).

Castle Howard is a stately manor residence in North Yorkshire, built between 1699 and 1712 for the 3rd Earl of Carlisle to a design by Sir John Vanbrugh. It is familiar in modern times as the setting for the Granada television series Brideshead Revisited.
