The tune appears as an untitled reel in the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork cleric and uilleann piper Canon James Goodman (vol. 3, p. 107). See also the cognate "Little Boy in the Boat (The)" from Rev. Luke Donnellan's 1909 collection. A version of the reel was entered as an untitled tune into Book 2 (No. 197) of the large c. 1883 music manuscript collection of County Leitrim fiddler and piper Stephen Grier (c. 1824-1894).
