BOY IN THE BOAT [1], THE (An Buachaill sa mBad). Irish, Reel. D Mixolydian (Breathnach): D Major (Miller, Mulvihill, Taylor). Standard tuning (fRiddle). AB (Breathnach): AABB (Mulvihill, Taylor): AA'BB (Miller). The tune appears as an untitled reel in the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork cleric and uilleann piper Canon biography:James Goodman (vol. 3, p. 107). See also the cognate "Little Boy in the Boat (The)" from Rev. Luke Donnellan's 1909 collection. A version of the reel was entered as an untitled tune into Book 2 (No. 197) of the large c. 1883 music manuscript collection of County Leitrim fiddler and piper biography:Stephen Grier (c. 1824-1894).
